How to Improve the Efficiency of Trading With The Help of Music

You “wake up” from songs like from the alarm clock, you listen to music in the process of performing calculations at work, you feel a surge of energy when you listen to music during workouts at the gym and maybe you listen to music like a background while trading on Forex. But do you know that what you listen to can really influence your actions, feelings and thoughts and at the results of our trading?

How could you use music to improve personal performance? What genres are suitable for scalping, and what genres are good for long-term trading? You will read about it in today’s article.

What happens in our body and brain when we listen to music

What happens in our body and brain when we listen to music

“The influence of music on the brain or the body is partly dependent on its genre. However, it also depends on whether you like this song. A fan of “Heavy Metal” is able to hear in metal music all kinds of emotions, although others, as a rule, hear only the state of aggression.

Regardless of your musical taste, I will explain you some things that happen in your body and brain every time you push the “play” button.

  • Memory

Your memories are formed and reproduced thanks to the release of dopamine.

  • Mood

Due to the release of “good mood neurotransmitter” dopamine, you have lifted the mood.

  • Productivity

You perform simple tasks and standardized tests better.

  • Blood pressure

Depending on the tempo and type of music you listen to, your blood pressure decreases (or increases).

  • Physical activity

Due to the effect of music on your physical activity, you are able to perform more heavy exercises for more long time.

  • Skin

In response to particularly exciting music touches you, your skin is experiencing real physical sensations. You feel the “goose bumps” and feel the music “rips the soul”.

Your mood is improved. The research published in the “Journal of Positive Psychology” shows that listening to rhythmic music instantly increases the mood – but this only works if you have the desire to be happy. The testees who listened to upbeat music without showing the desire to be happy (sullen losers), did not notice the change in their mood. “Listening to positive music may be an effective way of gaining good mood, especially when it is combined with the intention to become more joyful,” says the research. A separate research has also shown that when we listen to music, our body releases “good mood neurotransmitter” called dopamine.

Your performance increases. In 1993, a study on “the Mozart effect”, has shown that listening to Mozart can improve the execution of standardized tests. However, not only classical music has this effect. A study published in the “Intelligence” journal shows that people who listen to music perform spatial tasks better, compared with those who do not listen to music, regardless of musical genre. One of the researchers of Mozart effect, Frances Rauscher, explained the results of this impact: “The key to this lies in the fact that you have to enjoy the music. If you hate Mozart, you do not develop Mozart effect. If you like to listen to Pearl Jam, then you will develop Pearl Jam effect».

Your certain memories pop up. Have you vivid memories at the moment of listening to a song? Music helps to evoke certain memories and even create new ones. Nice music promotes the release of dopamine in the mesolimbic nerve pathways that, in turn, contributes to associative thinking and, ultimately, shapes the memory. A study published in the “Neuropsychology” journal, shows that playing music also helps to improve working memory. “In terms of behavior, the musicians are superior of people who are not associated with music; standardized subtests of visual, phonological and executive memory demonstrate it,” the study says.

The feeling of “goosebumps” on the skin – in the best sense of the word. When the song takes an unexpected turn (for example, drastically changes its direction, tempo, etc.), your skin may experience certain physical sensations. Goosebumps simply put. I think we have all experienced similar.

You are able to perform more heavy exercises for more long time. Do you listen to music while you jog? Then you know how effective it is when you make every effort to run the last kilometer (or 100 meters). It was proved that music stimulates us to perform the heavier and more continuous operations, increasing our physical performance and activity and increasing our productivity. Researchers found that carefully selected music, for example, your playlist for workouts could have a favorable impact in terms of improving performance during exercises of high intensity. Experts believe that the musical tempo of 180 beats per minute is the best stimulus for jogging.

Your blood pressure changes. Depending on the music you listen to, your blood pressure may increase or decrease. Studies have shown that listening to music by Beethoven, Puccini and Verdi were associated with reduced blood pressure and lower heart rate – regardless of whether people actually preferred that kind of music. However, rock and pop had no effect on blood pressure or even, apparently, slightly increased it. Similarly, another study showed that listening to dynamic music was associated with increased blood pressure, whereas listening to slower music was associated – you guessed it – with lower blood pressure.

What should you listen to for improving the quality of trading on Forex?

What should you listen to for improving the quality of trading on Forex

First, music should be without words. Or with a minimum of words. Or in a language, you do not understand (or quite a bit). Because of the word (any) is the burden on the brain and distraction.

Further, it all depends on personal preference and frequency of trading. Rhythmic, energetic music is suitable for fast scalpers, traders of news and breakouts on the charts. Good classic music (no roar of cannon fire), ambient, chillout, new age are for fans of higher timeframes.

Another factor is time of day when you check the markets; there is music for mornings and music for evenings. Music must be faster in the morning, and it should be more measured in the evening.

Of course, it is not a problem to find music on the network, but I will give you some interesting sources below.

http://stillstream.fm/ — ambient radio. It is my favorite. Right now, I’m writing this article listening to this radio. The pinnacle of transcendence, Zen and the condition of superposition. Pure ambient embodying the root cause, the original idea of the whole genre — “music, extended in infinity» Removes emotions, that is critical in trading. Perfect for a leisurely check of daily charts.
The downside is that some songs can scare untrained listeners. Also the lack of funding affects, the radio is not working periodically.

http://www.rainymood.com/ — rain. Just the sounds of rain on a beautiful background. Sounds of rain change periodically.

http://naturesoundsfor.me/ — the set of sounds of nature. You can create your own background adding the sounds of nature: birds singing, the murmur of the water; the music, background noises. Up to 4 sources simultaneously, the volume of each is regulated separately. You can save the combination and listen to mixes of the other users.

http://getworkdonemusic.com/ — literally “music to do the job”. Fast songs, the records of famous DJs mostly. The service takes them from Soundcloud, the well-known music social network.

Natura Sound Therapy — good program with lots of presets: “productivity”, “visualization”, “rehabilitation”, meditation, etc. Minus — it requires installation on your computer. There are apps for Android and Ios also. It is the cool thing. I use it for many years. The program, in addition to music and nature sounds, also uses binaural beats — special variations (giving effect only in the headphones) that influence the human brain.

http://enigmatic.su/ — there are several radio stations from new age and chillout.

Youtube — here you can find many channels with music for meditation, chillout, wild dancing and just anything your heart desires.

Itunes — not everyone knows, but there is a huge directory of Internet radio that is divided by genres, in the player from Apple. To get there: click View ->More ->Internet radio.

What kind of music do you listen to while you are trading? Did you notice its impact on your productivity?

Take care, Michael
